What medications do you offer for weight loss?
We may prescribe compounded tirzepatide as appropriate.
How do these medications work?
Compounded Tirzepatide, along with compounded semaglutide, belong to a class of medications called “Glucagon-like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists.” GLP-1 RAs, for short, these medications are engineered to replicate the effects of the GLP-1 hormone. Additionally, tirzepatide is a dual GLP-1 and GIP RA. The latter hormone refers to the “Gastric Inhibitory Polypeptide.”
What functions is GLP-1 responsible for in the body?
GLP-1 is a gut hormone that is responsible for many vital functions, which are of particular interest to individuals with Type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, and risk factors for these and other conditions (such as obesity). These functions include triggering insulin production, which lowers the sugar or glucose in the blood, thereby reducing diabetes risk. It also has a positive effect on satiety or feelings of fullness. It helps to regulate appetite and food intake, which contributes favorably to weight loss.
And how about GIP? What does it regulate?
GIP, too, is associated with appetite control and the regulation of food intake. It also functions to curb the adverse metabolism-related changes that frequently occur in tandem with calorie restrictions within weight loss programs. As a dual or “co-receptor,” tirzepatide is considered to be a comprehensive option to manage existing disease and protect against disease among those who are obese and at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, some cancers, sleep apnea, and other serious systemic medical conditions.
How is tirzepatide administered as an injection?
If tirzepatide is right for you, we will go over everything to expect throughout treatment. Notably, we can demonstrate how to administer such medications from the comfort of home or on the go. They are safely and quickly injected at weekly intervals. Tirzepatide should be introduced during the same time each day and does not need to be “taken” with food. The injections may be made in areas such as the stomach, thigh, and upper arm. Apply tirzepatide under the skin, and do not reinject at the same site each day.
What are the “typical” results?
In a 72-week study, participants who took Zepbound® reported an average weight loss of 28 and 33 pounds (depending on dosage). This compares favorably to the seven-pound average weight loss for placebo participants. Average weight loss is 1-2lbs per week, this is a healthy weight loss.
