How long is recovery after liposuction?

Most patients will recover over 2 – 3 days after their liposuction procedure, during which time they wear a compression garment to help them heal. Does liposuction cause scarring?

Because tumescent liposuction is not a surgical procedure that makes large incisions, scarring is minimal. With liposuction, only very small incisions are made to insert the cannula, or tube, under the skin. After your procedure is done, they will stitch up the incision, and it will close up in about one week and often heal in less than two weeks. Around the third or fourth month, the scar really starts to fade, and by the sixth month, the scar is barely noticeable at all. These incisions can be placed in areas where they are less visible, like skin folds and areas covered by clothing. In some cases, these incisions can heal so cleanly that they are virtually invisible.

How soon do you see results with liposuction?

Most patients can see immediate results after liposuction. Any potential swelling typically goes down within a few days, so results should become even more noticeable over 1 – 2 weeks. Most patients will see optimal results within 2 – 3 months.
