Xeomin

WHAT IS XEOMIN?

Xeomin is an FDA-approved cosmetic injectable that temporarily improves the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines).

It contains botulinum toxin type A, which blocks nerve signals that cause muscle contractions. This helps to relax the targeted muscles and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines.

Xeomin is similar to popular injectables like Botox and Dysport but has a unique formulation with fewer accessory proteins.

As a result, it may be less likely to cause allergic reactions. Xeomin offers a non-surgical option for individuals seeking a smoother, more youthful complexion.

White Pearl Medical Spa located in Des Plaines, Northwest Suburbs, IL offers Xeomin to our patients as another effective alternative in anti-aging and rejuvenation.

Xeomin Injection

HOW DOES XEOMIN WORK?

Xeomin works by utilizing the power of botulinum toxin type A to temporarily improve the appearance of frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). When injected into the targeted muscles, it blocks the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contractions.

By inhibiting muscle activity, Xeomin helps to relax and soften the wrinkles and lines that are formed due to repeated facial expressions.

Unlike other injectables, Xeomin has a unique formulation with minimal accessory proteins. These proteins are typically present in other botulinum toxin products.

But Xeomin undergoes a purification process to remove them. The absence of accessory proteins may reduce the risk of certain allergic reactions.

Once injected, Xeomin gradually takes effect over the following days to weeks. The treated muscles become temporarily paralyzed, making the overlying skin appear smoother and less wrinkled.

The results typically last about 3 to 6 months, after which additional injections may be needed to maintain the desired outcome. The goal of a Xeomin treatment is to administer the precise amount of the medication to minimize the wrinkles without creating a “frozen” look on the face.

Our experienced doctors and injectable experts know how to help you look relaxed, rejuvenated, and more youthful, without losing the ability to show natural expression.

WHO IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR XEOMIN?

Adults with dynamic wrinkles (repetitive muscle movements) in the following areas: frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, or forehead lines.

Adults with good overall health and desire realistic expectations.

If you are allergic to any ingredients found in Xeomin or other products containing botulinum toxin, Xeomin injections may not suit you.

Before the treatment, your doctor will thoroughly assess your medical history, including any recent skin infections, allergies, and medications you are taking. This evaluation is crucial in determining whether you are a suitable candidate for Xeomin.

Prior to receiving XEOMIN, it is important to inform your doctor about your medical history, including the following:

  • If you have a condition that affects your muscles and nerves, such as ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease), myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome.
  • If you have experienced any side effects from previous use of botulinum toxin.
  • If you have a breathing problem, such as asthma or emphysema.
  • If you have a history of swallowing difficulties or inhaling food or fluid into your lungs (aspiration).
  • If you have drooping eyelids.
  • If you have undergone eye surgery or facial surgery.
  • If you are currently pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is uncertain whether XEOMIN can harm an unborn baby.
  • If you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is uncertain whether XEOMIN passes into breast milk.
Xeomin Injection For Men

ARE MEN ELIGIBLE FOR XEOMIN TREATMENTS?

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, neuromodulator treatments like Xeomin were highly sought after by men in 2018.

In fact, over 450,000 men underwent this treatment, accounting for 6% of all patients receiving the procedure. From 2000 to 2018, the use of neurotoxins among men increased by an impressive 381%.

Although both men and women seek this treatment, men must consult with a doctor who possesses expertise in treating male patients and understands the nuances required to achieve a natural outcome.

Our dedicated dermatologists recognize these genuine differences and incorporate them into each treatment, ensuring the best possible results for all of our patients.

IS XEOMIN CONSIDERED SAFE?

In 2011, Xeomin received FDA approval for cosmetic use after two clinical studies conducted in the US demonstrated its safety and efficacy, establishing its similarity to Botox.

To ensure a positive experience, scheduling your Xeomin treatment with a highly trained medical provider, such as our aesthetic experts at White Pearl Medical Spa in Des Plaines, Northwest Suburbs, IL, is recommended.

Opting for treatments at non-medical spas, salons, or parties may compromise safety. It is important to note that other neuromodulators, including Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau, have also obtained FDA approval, further affirming their safety.

XEOMIN FAQS

What is the duration of the results?

Neuromodulators, including Xeomin, typically follow a similar timeline for results. While some improvement may become noticeable within 24 to 48 hours, it can take up to 2 weeks to fully appreciate the outcome.
Generally, positive results from Xeomin injections last between 3 to 5 months. To sustain a refreshed appearance, regular treatment sessions are recommended.

Consistent treatments can also prevent the progression of existing lines and potentially delay the formation of new ones for an extended period.

Can neuromodulators address all types of wrinkles?

Neuromodulators, including Xeomin, Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau, are most effective in treating dynamic wrinkles. These wrinkles develop when you engage in facial expressions such as smiling or squinting.
Dynamic wrinkles are typically found in the upper face, including the forehead and around the eyes. However, wrinkles caused by volume loss and skin laxity may not respond well to neuromodulators.
Injectable dermal fillers and other treatment options are better suited for addressing these signs of aging.

Are there any potential side effects?

Side effects associated with Xeomin injections are rare; when they occur, they are typically mild and temporary.

Some patients may experience temporary swelling or bruising around the injection sites, which typically subsides within two to three days. Allowing your skin ample time to heal before scheduling any significant social or professional events is advisable.

Additionally, a few patients may experience headaches following the treatment for a day or two. Over-the-counter pain relievers can be used to alleviate any discomfort.

Will my face appear and feel unnatural?

Many patients have concerns about the naturalness of their appearance when receiving Xeomin or another neuromodulator treatment for the first time.

The key to achieving natural-looking results lies in selecting the right practitioner to perform your treatment.

Our goal is for no one to be able to tell that you have had a cosmetic treatment unless you choose to disclose it. By precisely administering the appropriate dosage and strategically placing the injections, we can enhance fine lines and wrinkles while allowing you to maintain your natural facial expressions.

When is the ideal time to begin anti-wrinkle injections?

The optimal timeframe for initiating neuromodulator treatments is unique to each individual.

We recommend scheduling a personal consultation with one of our aesthetic experts to address your specific concerns and evaluate whether Xeomin is the appropriate option for you.

We can provide personalized guidance and recommendations based on your unique needs and goals during this assessment.

Is Xeomin a viable substitute for Botox?

If you’re seeking an alternative to Botox, Xeomin is an excellent option. In certain cases, patients may develop resistance to the larger Botox molecule, resulting in a shorter duration of effectiveness. If this occurs, Xeomin can serve as an ideal alternative.

The great news is that the dosing units for both treatments are identical, allowing for a seamless transition from Botox to Xeomin in a single straightforward step.
